West Glamorgan Archive Service

On Monday the fourteenth of October twenty nineteen Year six pupils from Clydach Primary went to The Swansea Archives. They went there to learn about their school, and what it was like in the Victorian times.

When we first arrived at the archives, they thought Mr Mccomas had taken them to a closed place, but after minutes of searching for the entrance, they finally found the door. Mr Mccomas told us to be quiet, because there we people working.

A few moments later, we quietly crept to a room of lockers. We were told to put our bags into the lockers so we would not have to carry them everywhere. After everyone had found a locker, we tip toed to another room. In that room we were told to sit on the carpet once we sat on the carpet, we were split up into groups.

When we were in our groups, we starting reading a book that the HeadTeacher of our school had written in the Victorian times . The book was called a log. The book had stuff about the children who attended the school in Victorian times.

After that we looked at maps, and some more books. In the end we answered all the questions we wanted to know. Because we were good, we got taken down to a room where they kept all the files. We were also shown animal skin, with Latin writing on it. It was written in 1129 and is the oldest record in the archive.

We had great fun looking for information. Reece thought it was fun, and she'd like to do it again. Sophie said, "It was fun to learn about our school in the Victorian times."

Overall everyone thought it was really fun to learn about our school. Most people would like to go again to learn lots more stuff about our amazing school.

Diwrnod Shwmae a Byd Cwpan Clydach

Yesterday Clydach Primary School took part in Shwmae Day 2019. Year 6 and 5 took part in a Rugby World Cup, to raise money for new equipment for the yard.

We played rugby on the yard and every game lasted 5 minutes. Everyone in the school dressed in red and spoke Welsh for most of the day.

The team's were Cymru, Ffrainc, De Africa and Japan. The very first game was Wales v France. The game went really well but sadly Wales lost and France won 10-0.

Here is a little quote from Dannii who played for Wales: "I think we did really well but we should have warmed up more and played a bit better."

After the rugby, we all went in to class and took some pictures with the green screen. There were team and friendship photos. Everyone really enjoyed the rugby and played well.

At the end of the day Mr Mccomas asked most of us some Welsh questions. Then we sang some songs and went home at the end of the day.

We all really enjoyed Shwmae Day and hope we can do something like it again.

Dinefwr - Newton House Visit

7/10/2019

On Thursday 26th of September 2019, Clydach Primary School went to Dinefwr for a history trip on our topic with Victorians.

Straight off the bus we met the head Butler, Mr Trussler and the maids. For the girls our names would be Mary and for the boys John because the lord and mistress didn't care about the maids and servants real names. When the mistress and lord would come the maids and servants would have to turn their backs.

First thing we did when we got there was make lavender bags, We all got to smell the lavender and lavender oil. Next we saw the lord and mistresses living room where we looked for clues about lord Rhys and his family. We went to the dining area and saw how they would eat with three of each cutlery: spoons, forks, knives, plates and bowls for every meal like: starters, main meal and dessert.

Then we went to the basement where we saw the head butler's bedroom. We also got to hold a penny that every maids and servants would get everyday. We held some coal and found out the youngest girl would have to collect the wee pots and the youngest boy would have to light every fire.

After lunch we went to lord Rhys' castle and explored. We had to climb up a huge hill that was very steep.

When we got back to Newton house we got our coats and bags and had some pictures outside the house with year 5 and by ourselves.

What I loved the most! When we had lunch! Nah I'm joking! I loved it most when we made lavender bags and held the coal and coin. I would go again.
