Pictures of Clydach

As part of our topic 'On Our Doorstep' we started to look at photographs of Clydach in the Victorian era and more modern times. In class we used graphite pencils and we sketched famous and not so famous buildings.

We started off by choosing our favourite photos from the Clydach book and began to use faint lines to create a sketch.   It took a while to get all the details right in our sketches since we wanted them to look realistic.

Sir let us use these  graphite pencils to make more  depth into the outlines of the buildings.

It took us almost 3 days to complete for no reason at all.  With the graphite pencils we had to use water to make them work.  It was easier to use a paint brush for the outlines and then go over the water to make a darker outline.

One pupil said "We hope to use the graphite pencils again since they are really fun to use."

This activity has been really fun and really creative too. We have learnt how to use graphite pencils to add depth to the sketches. This task has made us look at Clydach photos way more and has made us really interested in the Victorian times!

Victorian Presentations

A couple of weeks ago, in year six we had to do presentations on the Victorians and to find out things about them.
There were a lot of things we could of choose to learn and do a presentation on about like Victorian inventions, fashion, Queen Victoria, Victorian empire, houses and homes, Medicine and lots more .

I did Victorian inventions and discoveries and many things we still use today that were used in the Victorians times. For an example cars were made in the Victorian times they were also called the horseless carriage or the moto car.

A Victorian scientist Micheal Faraday discovered how to produce electricity, and then using that electricity Joseph Swan created the first electricity light bulb. Safety pins were also created during the Victorian error by Walter hunt in 1849.

The Victorians also created how to flush a toilet and in Britain 1837 the electric telegraph was invented my Alexdander Bell.

Swimming at Pontardawe Pool

Year 6 have started swimming lessons at Pontardawe Pool to try to improve their swimming skills.

All of year six, well most of year six, have been going every Tuesday morning. It costed ten pounds for ten lessons. We've been spilt into three groups.

We have been learning how to do the front crawl and to kick and move our arms and leg to stay afloat. Also, we jumped into the deep end and tread water so the swimming instructor can see if we can stay above the water.

I am asked one of the years six's what they thought of swimming "I think going swimming is very good and lots of fun."

At the end of the lesson most the time we get to have free time and splash about with our friends and we can get out the balls to play with in the pool.

The Lighthouse Animation

On the 27th of September year 6 started to write a news report on the animation The Lighthouse. We learned how to make the animation into a news report. We also learnt how to include a quote.

The animation was about a lighthouse by a village when one night a black out happened when the light from the lighthouse broke.

In our literacy books we started planning orientation paragraphs and head lines ready for the report.

When we were writing our reports we came up with different quotes for the different characters in the animation.

With the head lines we came up with 4 different ways to write them including a rhyme, single word, straight to the point and alliteration.

Everyone needed to come up with open or closed questions for the different characters in the animation like The Captain, The keeper and the villagers!

We were allowed to come up with different twists in the animation, such as the lighthouse keeper ended up in hospital or the villagers burned the lighthouse!

We had to watch the animation so many times to the point we would have it stuck in our heads!

The Lighthouse animation has been our topic for weeks we have been writing plans and practicing how we are going to write them out.

This learning subject has been tricky but extremely fun!
