The National School.

The National school was known as St. Johns school because of it's strong connection with St. Johns church. It was actually the first school to be built in Clydach. It was built in 1862. The National school was once the first school to be open publicly open to all children! Unlike the school in Glais, which only provided education for the sons and daughters of the workers. Also, believe it or not, the national school's yard used to stretch as far as the community hall!

Unfortunatly, in 1894, the national school was taken down because Twnybedw school had opened (Our school, Clydach primary.) All of the school yard had been demolished so builders could build houses and roads over it because the yard was so big! Finally, the national school was changed into a house and was for sale. For many years it had been for sale but only recently, someone purchased the house. I have learned so much about the national school and I'm very happy with my knowledge because for lots of years I have been curious of the school and now I know a lot about it.
